A Final Report from the "EC", Aug. 18, 1997

Hi, all ONMUAA members:

What a wave of e-mail communication again! I wish our alumni could put up with those who presented their views about issues of future ONMUAA, liberal or conservative. One withdrawal of e-mail address is an isolated event (I know she is moving to another state).

Shan and many others who served for the ONMUAA in the past year deserve an applaud, and don't forget those behind the scene who made our ONMUAA into being. Although they may have a mixed feeling about what others said and speculated, the fact is that we have our ONMUAA as it is and the truth is that these dedicated persons have kept it alive, whether it is liked or not. I dare to guess that none of us want to kill it before it grows into one we really like.

Having said the above, I thought this is the perfect time to let you all know what we have done in the past year. Keep in mind that those who "served", to be more exact, volunterred, on ONMUAA just like you who have family, job, career, time, money, friends ... to care about. Let's congraltulate on our ONMUAA anniversary!

Dear Governing Board and all ONMUAA Members:

During the past year, with all your help, the Executive Committee (EC) has accomplished a great deal in further establishing ONMUAA image and connection with our mother campus NMU. We have the following final report for your review:

1. Have completed and maintained three web sites as the center of information exchange, thanks to the efforts of Fuhu Wang (the leader), Jianlong Mu, Ning Jin, Li Lu and many others. These sites can be accessed all over the world. The most popular site has been visited more than 1,000 times! We would also like to acknowledge the following individuals for their time and efforts: Qianjin Liu, Langfeng Tao, Jianping Xue and Wei Yang.

2. Have published 6 issues of ONMUAA Newsletter as a means of communication for ONMUAA members, thanks to our excellent editorial board. Some members expressed their sincere thanks through e-mails for having such newsletters. We would like to acknowledge the following individuals for their contributions: Xupei Huang (the leader), Gang Bao, Zhigang He, Bei Cheng, Youqi Han, Guoqin Liu, Qianjin liu, Zijun liu, Li Mao, Denshun Miao, Qinghua Yang, Yongjia Yu, Yiwen Tao,Yamei Zhang, Ding Xinsheng, Jingrong Yan, Guohua Cao, Shan Lu, Youcheng Liu, Yongjian Liu, Lianfeng Tao, Ning Jin, Fuhu Wang, Benquan Shen, and Qingyi Wei.

3. Have compiled an ONMUAA directory, which included 328 members. Many members (too many to enlist; please see the directory for the acknowledgment) donated their invaluable time to collect information for the directory. Special thanks goes to Yang Wei and Shan Lu, who finalized it for printing.

4. Have established formal connection with NMU and promoted ONMUAA activities. Lead by Shen Benquan and Zhigang He, we accomplished the following:

1) Official recognition of ONMUAA in the form of Official Letter from the President of NMU;
2) A mail-out survey for members' needs;
3) Official registration of ONMUAA in California;
4) Participating in NMU activities and establishing proper communication channel and representatives;
5) Local chapter actives such as Boston and S.F. Bay-area;
6) Book and Journal donations to NMU Library.

5. Lead by Liangfeng Tao, we have successfully sponsored fund-raising activities and raised more than $500. We registered a bank account for ONMUAA funds. We would like to thank the donors for their generosity. Special thanks goes to Bei Cheng, Benquan Shen and Yongjian Liu for their efforts in registration, establishing our bank account and taking care of the money.

Finally, we would like to thank Ning Jin, who has been working so diligently to keep our ONMUAA running. She has created a communication center and facilitated e-mail routing. We would also like to thank Fuhu Wang, Benquan Shen and Qingyi Wei, who help put things together. We are confident that you would agree with us that we have accomplished quite a bit in the past year. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your full support, without which it would have been impossible for us to accomplish anything. We ask again your further support for the next ONMUAA administration by voicing your ideas and suggestions and help us reach effectively to all ONMUAA members.
